We’re currently on the lookout for an Electric Vehicle Service Technician who will perform a critical role in developing and executing service, repairs and troubleshooting on heavy-duty commercial truck Class 8 Battery Electric Vehicle (EV), and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV), as we help bring this exciting technology to market.

 

Job Summary:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and provide remedy solutions for repair of electrical systems and components on commercial trucks.
  • Must be able to identify and evaluate root cause malfunctions using electronic tools, schematics and other trouble shooting methods.
  • Be able to demonstrate proper communication methods to the team and effectively explain truck conditions, truck status and recommendations, to clients, associates, and management.

This position will support both EV/FCEV product lines at multiple locations in the northeast, based out of Calumet City, IL. The position will work within a team to provide excellence in service to our clients. The candidate should preferably have a minimum of 18 months in the heavy-duty trucking industry or related field. This Position also requires an understanding of chassis, braking, electrical and HVAC systems.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and have a solution to repair them.
  • Order parts for repairs as needed; Plan and control costs in support of the EV/FCEV product line(s) – providing customers with accurate cost-effective solutions.
  • Complete detailed reports and keep records on services that have been performed.
  • Learn and use the appropriate EV/FCE products, procedures, and systems.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Provide on-the-job training as assigned.
  • Work overtime as needed.
  • Travel to customer and/or installation start up locations as needed.
  • Make warranty recommendations to customers.
  • Communicate with proper individuals to clarify instructions and or discuss the scope or progress of a job.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills, Abilities & Education:

  • CDL preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent communication verbally and in writing, information, instructions, and explanations to associates, customers and management regarding diagnostic skills, problems, recommendations, and repair processes.
  • Proficient with current software and computer system platforms; as well as knowledge in operating scanning/diagnostic tools via CAN, LIN, J1939 and OBD.
  • Knowledge and skills to operate and understand diagnostic equipment including computerized instrumentation.
  • Appropriate manner, conduct, and grooming adhere to company policy.
  • Ability to work independently without much supervision; effectively manage time.
  • his position is designated as a “Safety-Sensitive Position”. A Safety-Sensitive Position includes tasks or duties that Alta and/or its OEM(s) in good faith believe could affect the safety or health of the employee performing the task or others.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers.
  • Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Current commercial driver's license preferred but training available for ideal candidate.
  • High voltage experience is preferred with Metra hit and low voltage 87-V.
  • Must be able to read detailed Fault Isolation diagrams.

  • The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job which include bending, lifting heavy equipment, and working in confined spaces; Adhere to OSHA and Alta safety standards and protocol.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to high voltage, moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; and outside weather conditions.
  • Working with high voltage daily, safety is an absolute must.

  • Maintain company equipment – keep in good clean orderly condition.
  • May need to operate a forklift or vehicle lift with appropriate certification(s).
